The Club

Are you interested in railway modelling or just railways in general and keen to share your interests with others?

We welcome new members of all abilities from newcomers and novices to master modelmakers. Founded in 1971, we have a diverse membership with a common interest in all things railway. Members model across a range of scales and gauges, eras and countries. Bring along your own modelling projects or work on the club project layouts – currently, Okehampton (O gauge, SR/BR, 1948-55) and Aylesbury Town (P4 gauge, 1950s/60s). Or share knowledge and experience of the real thing.

We meet every Friday evening from 19.00 to 22.00 (7 to 10pm) in St Mary's Church Hall, on Church Street in Princes Risborough (postcode HP27 9AW). A hot and cold drinks bar is available.

The Club Diary can be accessed to show you what we have planned.

Follow this link for a google map of our meeting place.

Club Room

We meet each Friday, where projects can be set up and worked on. We also have a small library, DVDs, workshop tools, laser cutter etc. At the moment we are between locations, as we are planning to build our own club room on a permanent site.

Layouts

We have an established history of building entertaining layouts. These have included: Addison Park, Chiltern Road, Radmore, Chiltern Parkway and New Mills, however, we do not rely solely on past successes and we have a number of layout projects under construction in 'O' and P4. We are custodians of the iconic Aylesbury LNWR (High Street) layout which faithfully reproduces the original station as it was circa1910. When exhibited it has generated a lot of interest, not just in the exquisite modelling but in the history of the railway, local industries (e.g. ducks, osier!) and the development of the town. For more information on these please see our Layouts and Stock page.

Exhibitions

Within the community we have an educational role by promoting knowledge and interest in railways to the wider public, as the club holds two exhibitions a year, Risex in February and Railex in May or June, and an informal open day in the autumn. The latest details of our exhibitions can be found on the Exhibitions page. We also take part in the annual Princes Risborough Festival, speak at historical societies, support a local church fete and railway-related events (e.g. Bucks Railway Centre).

Wheeltapper Competition

Our annual model making competition with a wide range of classes covering UK and overseas stock, scenery, road vehicles etc. This is a chance to see and admire the work of the past year and have a friendly competition.

Modelling Workshops

We are running a series of workshops to improve the skills of members. These cover such subjects as: weathering, modelling with plastic, 2D and 3D CAD design, DCC (Digital Command Control), brass, whitemetal & resin casting, kit building, modelling trees, etc. In fact, any topic you want.

Thinking of Joining

Benefits of membership include free entrance to the club on Friday evenings and the use of the facilities at other times, organised exhibitions, social events and a quarterly newsletter “Footplate” which contains news, features and articles plus details of forthcoming events, competitions and exhibitions.
